I've noticed these creeping in around the edges and thought it might be nice to post them one at a time for each other to read. I think we should avoid song lyrics though, otherwise we'll wind up posting every line from every song. Smiling

That said, one of my favorites from Tori is:

"If you call me a new-age, airy-fairy, hippie-dippy airhead I will shove my crystals up your ass."

They can be from anyone. And I think it is worth noting sometimes you can not like the person, but see something in a comment they made.

So do you have a quote you'd like to share?

That is really Beautiful. I am definitely keeping it. Thank you for translating and posting it.

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. - Joseph Campbell

I've read an amazingly good poem today. It's called Świadomość ('Awareness' or 'Consciousness', I'm not sure how to translate this) and was written by Czesław Miłosz, whom I must've already mentioned somewhere Eye-wink This is a strophe that made a great impression on me:

"I want to believe that those powers which are above us
Do touch our cheeks and hair sometimes,
So that they can feel this poor body and blood inside of them."

"Being slightly paranoid is like being slightly pregnant - it tends to get worse. - Molly Ivins

That is funny. Smiling

I do like the Paul Valéry's words. They are so true (not only for the ones who write, but also for those who read poems, I think Smiling)
"The composer makes plans, music laughs." - Morton Feldman.

Books and movies are fine. Smiling I just wanted to avoid it turning into a lyric thread. We all love music, (especially Tori's) so much we fill it with every song.

BC, that sounds like a really good idea!! Btw, love your newest quote..
Here's another one from the movie "Prime".. It goes like this:
"Just get mixed up in something, then at least you know that you're living". I know it's just a quote made for a film, but it still made me think Smiling

"Excuse me, but can I be you for a while? My dog won't bite if you sit real still"

AH, I have a free service that texts one to my cellphone each day. So I forward them to my email if I like them, and I have a 'Quotes' screen-saver that you can add new ones to the file. So when I get a good one I add it to the list of random quotes displayed by my screen-saver. I have a ton of them. Smiling

Gealach, thank you so much. That is beautiful, and going in my file. Smiling Here is one that I love, and suspect you might like too.

this is a wonderful idea, Bending-Chills. I've always loved collecting good quotes, and a few days ago I even found one concerning... collecting the quotes Smiling
these are the words of Józef Czapliński, a priest from my country, who was corresponding with Czesław Miłosz, one of our greatest poets. I found it in a reprint of one letter and now I'm translating it especially for you Eye-wink "In the moment of passing away, each one of us can keep just a handful of words - from their own past, from their life, from the quotes that were giving them a strength to live. (...) So don't be surprised that I'm feeding you with quotes in this letter, because this is where I find the Answer. These quotes save me."

I like to read your quotes too Smiling I'm just sorry that I can't come up with anymore :S I guess I'll keep reading yours Cool

I felt like we were such a clever group that it would be fun to see what sort of things matter to each other. I am loving reading all the quotes. Smiling

Thank you RAZ 1980 for those very warm and wonderful words. I'm glad I was able to add a little light in your life - Your Big Hug definitely returned the favor!!!

Here is a quote from the 2nd Book in the Dune Series, Called "Dune Messiah."

Quote: "To see eternity was to be exposed to eternity's whims, oppressed by endless dimensions. The oracles false Immortality demanded retribution: Past and Future became simultaneous."

Here is another quote from the 3rd Book Of Dune, entitled: "Children Of Dune"

Quote: "There is no single set of limits for all men. Universal prescience is an empty myth. Only the most powerful local currents of time may be foretold, But in an infinite universe, local can be so gigantic that your mind shrinks from it."

Bush411, as far as I can tell, you are the only one having problems on the thread. Maybe the problem is on your end some how.

Any woman who thinks the way to a man's heart is through his stomach is aiming about 10 inches too high. -Adrienne E. Gusoff

awww.. Steve you just made my day! You are very sweet and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your post. It is true that one of my friends my dearest friends was hurt but my apology was thankfully accepted without a second thought. I can only understand someone in my friends' shoes would be offended as it is the culture of my friend we are talking about here.

However, your words worked like the exact antidote for me and again i cannot tell you how much i was relieved to see your post a while ago. This, along with my friend's apology acceptance made my day (night to be more literate!).

big hug:-)

Hello Raz 1980. I can definitely tell you I was not offended. First of all, knowing you on this site as long as I have, I have no doubt that you would never intentionally try to offend anyone.

If someone I was unfamiliar with had done it, it might have raized an eyebrow. But because I know you, I also know you would not do that to anyone intentionally. I therefore didn't give it another thought.
I know in our politically correct society we live in today, it's easier than ever for someone to get offended; even when no harm is meant.

However, nowhere were you expressing your opinion. You were merely providing a direct quote from a famous author. I see nothing what-so-ever wrong with that.

As for me, I just like the idea of being able to say I have a friend in Greece!!!!!

Also because I know you, even if something seemed offensive, I WOULD ALWAYS BE WILLING TO GIVE YOU THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT!!!

Allow me to send a sincere apology to a very dear American friend of mine about the O.Wilde quote. I did not in any way mean to offend the american people. I just posted it as an example of a person who knows how to put words in a sentence and make a sharp declaration of a smart spirit.

I don't want to diminish or disrespect any person coming from any country..

Hello AH!

I really like your Tori Quote. I also agree with it fully.

Here is one from Former President Bill Clinton, taken from his Book enetiled "My Life."

Quote: "Harsh criticism makes hippocrates of us all."

By the way, I met Bill clinton yesterday, here in North Carolina, during a rally. he was conducting for his wife Hillary. I spoke to him, shook his hand, and got his autograph!

Although some of his recent televised Rallys have revealed him making a few slips (mistakes) -At Least that's the Media Spin - what I sew yesterday was nothing short of extraordinary. He may have been a little rusty on the campaign trail after a 7-year absence, when he first began, but I can tell you that he is definitely back in form now.

Aaah Oscar Wilde... I saw his grave in Paris some weeks ago, but I didn't know who he was. But from these quotes he seemed like quite a brilliant man Smiling
How about this one:
"Every person is unique. You have to find and respect that unique part in yourself. You can't expect others to do the work for you." - Tori Amos

--
"Excuse me, but can I be you for a while? My dog won't bite if you sit real still"

I agree, "Raz 1980" that Oscar Wilde is a Genius. Although, I believe Tori Amos is still far superior!!!

Here is a quote from the very frist Book of DUNE, by "Frank Herbert"

Quote: "It's a human trait that when we encounter personal problems, those things most deeply personal, are the most difficult to bring out for our logic to scan. We tend to flounder around, blaming everything but the actual, deep-seated thing that's really chewing on us."

I seem to keep getting some ridiculous quote superimposed over the one I put out on this thread. I may have to stop using this one. Then I have to back back in, use the edit, erase everything and retype it again, to get rid of it. THAT ONLY HAPPENS ON THIS PARTICULAR THREAD. I suspect there may be a virus on it. Anyone experiencing that?

Steve B.

Anything from Oscar Wilde. The man was a genious:

a true friend stabs you in the front.

America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.

(my apologies to US friends but this line is brilliant.)

You are absolutely correct Bending - Chills. That is from Desiderada. I remebered coming across it when I was 13-years old; and I literally fell in love with it. I have loved it everysense. For some reason, when thinking about it to post here, I mentally associated it with the Prophet, by khalil Gibran - Whom I also love as an author. I have read all of his works. Funny, how ones recollection of two things you love so much - That quote from Desiderada, and the Author Khalil Gibran - can become as one in your mind with the passage of time. (maybe it's a sign I'm starting to get older. I will be 56 years old on August 15 of this year. (LOL)

However, I would rather believe it is merely because I have accumulated a memory of too much stuff in my head over time. (Ha Ha)

In all seriousness, I really do have a memory of 100% of the Lyrics of over 10,000 songs in my head. I also know approximately 80-90% of the Lyrics to another 20,000 Songs. (That's No Joke) I ALSO HAVE IN A MY HEAD AN INTERPRETATION OF WHAT I BELIEVE THOSE SONGS ARE ABOUT. (Of course, I always recognize that could be wrong)

I have alread well over 6,000 Books in my lifetime, and have a memory of a voliminous amount of passages from all of thatr as well'.

So maybe, my RAM (Computer Memory in my Head), after nearly 56-years, is simply starting to fill up.(LOL) . Or I could simply take the excuse that I have a PHOTOGRAPHIC memory, BUT I AM OUT OF FILM RIGHT NOW!! (LOL)

In all seriousness, I am still able today, to hear a brand new song on the radio, for the first time, and by the time it is over, remember practically 80% of the Lyrics. By the time I hear it a second time, I not only know it 100%, I HAVE ALSO ASSESSED WHAT I BELIEVE IT'S HIDDEN MESSAGES ARE, IF ANY, AND/OR GENERALLY WHAT THE SONG IS ABOUT. I am doing that constantly on a daily basis.

That quote by the way: "Never Compare Yourself With others, for always you will become bitter or vain." is probably my faorite quote of all time.

Now, here is a REAL QUOTE the Prophet, by Khalil Gibran:

Quote: "Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls."

Thanks for the corrective feedback. I have now locked that quote, once again in my mind with the correct source! (LOL)

"The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself." -Sir Richard Francis Burton

By the way, I believe "If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself." is actually from The Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. A favorite from The Prophet is :

"Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, they belong not to you."
-Kahlil Gibran

Hello AH.

I absolutely feel the same way!

Here is a quote from a book entitled: "Mohandas K. Gandhi - An Autobiography" (He more widely known as Mahatma Gandh.)

Quote: "Scientific knowledge of one Language makes a knowledged of other Languages comparatively easy."

bush, that quote is so true!! I love falling to sleep while hearing music on my iPod, and when I was living with my parents, I had stars in the ceiling which glimpsed all through the night and made me have the best nights ever Smiling

"Excuse me, but can I be you for a while? My dog won't bite if you sit real still"

For some reason this particular thread is adding some ridiculous quote, on to my quote, that was not originally a part of it. It only seems to do it once in a while - not all the time. So I am going to try it again

Thanks Ah for those nice remarks. I'm glad you enjoyed my last quote.

Here is a quote from "Magister Ludi" written by Herman Hess:

Quote: "An Ear filled with music and a look at the stars is a far better prelude to sleep than all the sedatives in the world."

Smiling:)

Hey bush411, I like your quote a lot as well Smiling
Here's another one of my favourites... Tori again Smiling
"I have good days. Like if I get really good coffee ice cream with just the right amount of chocolate syrup."
I don't like coffee, but when reading this quote I always feel like drinking tons of it Cool
Love, AH

Hello AH.

That was a very interesting quote indeed. Leave it to Tori to always have a cutting edge to everything she does. Even here, we see her Genius in Action.

Here is a quote from a Book entitled "The Prophet" By Khalil Gibran

Quote: "Never compare yourself with others; for always you will become bitter or vain."

Although I sent this once, for some reason it would show something on there from what someone else typed in a prior message, along with mine. I don't know how that happend. I tried to edit it and take it out, but just in case, thought I would try it again.

I love good quotations!! I've written some of Tori's bests in my calendar... Here's my absolute favourite:

"In our minds, love and lust are really seperated. It's hard to find someone that can be kind and you can trust enough to leave your kids with, and isn't afraid to throw her man against a wall and lick him from head to toe" Cool

Here's one from a book I read by Ayn Rand, entitled: "Atlas Shrugged"
