When I heard this album for the first time, I was high. Not in the way most people would imagine, but really...actually high. I could see lakes passing by, trees, land. The plane flight was calm, quiet, and Scarlet's Walk became my atmosphere. I had never heard Tori's voice, never been exposed at this point. I was a High School kid, on the way to see my family. Amber Waves was the song that saluted the plane rising to the air. I was leaving Florida. But, that's what this album was about for me. Leaving, entering, and exploring new territories. It seemed to speak both plainly and in subtext about discovering what is really hidden inside the folds of the land. To be honest, this album was simply heartbreaking. It's my favorite not because it was my first Tori album, but because it was the one that I was the most privately involved with. Scarlet's Walk was a girl who traveled with me, a boy who was afraid to break his boundaries alone. I was leaving my home without a clue of what California would be like. I could close my eyes, and see a girl singing the song Virginia. Not the woman on the cover, but someone that was speaking tales to me. She had dark hair, freckles, olive skin, and she was a safety. This is an album that will come alive, if you're open enough to feel it. Scarlet's Walk is a brilliant weave of acoustic instrument and voice. The background vocals in themselves hide parts of the story. It's truly something you can get lost in. I remember purple flashes, as it began to storm when we were near landing. The song I Can't See New York was playing, I'd been skipping through tracks, like flipping through the pages of a book. It seemed that the lightning flashes were in some sort of correspondence with the earthy undertones of the song. Scarlet's Walk is an album that releases that sort of thing, and energy you can feel. It's a CD that changed a lot of people. Ask any Toriphile.

I love this album. There are a lot of beautiful and special songs. It has been played and sung by heart.
One of my favourite Tori's recent works.

The first time I heard "A Sorta Fairytale", there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to get the CD. I have no regrets what-so-ever once I heard the whole album. However, I do prefer the album version over the radio edit, so it was an additional bonus for getting the album. I can still go back to a song title and let the song play in the music box in my head. Definately a MUST HEAR album!!!

Fav. line: "we may be on this road but we're imposters"

I absolutely adore Scarlets Walk.

Every listen makes you feel like you are on a journey , from " A sorta Fairytale" to "Carbon" & "Your Cloud" , every song touches you.

I cried during Fairytale when I first heard it , but Gold Dust and I can't see New York would have to be the most emotional and favourite for me.

An exquisite piece of work is how I would descripe "Scarlet's Walk" and the artwork is stunning.

Although Scarlet's Walk is perhaps not my favourite Tori album, it's still a masterpiece. I will always think of it as such because it includes probably my all time favorite Tori track... A Sorta Fairytale. I love this song... the tune got me hooked from the first listen. Some of my other favs include Amber Waves and Taxi Ride. Of course, it goes without saying really...but...as with all Tori's music, the songs which make up Scarlet's Walk are composed and performed with heart and soul and passion... perfect for a relaxing evening in.

Of the albums I've given song-by-song star ratings to, this one got the most four and five star ratings. As concept albums go, this one is the clearest and strongest of Tori's works. It isn't often that one can say you can derive deep meaning out of a Tori album and have it be accessible at the same time. The themes explored on the album were timely, given our country's fervor for patriotism and patriarchy in the wake of the terrorist attacks in my hometown, as well as the progressions and digressions of the acceptance of gays in the media and the country at large. Of Tori's albums, this is the only one in which I find ALL of the tracks precious.

"in tracking the Beakon here - is there a signal there - on the other side?"

love the whole album, love tori, what a spring of talent that flows through her, which seems to be unending. everything she does is amazing and inspiring, if only i could have just an ounce of her genius. Again, Tori, love your work and I am sure that in love with you I would fall if ever I was fortunate enough to meet and hang with you.

Tori, this is your perfect album. All the tracks are perfect, like your From the choirgirl hotel. I especially love Pancake. This will be one of the soundtracks of my performance about Japanese Writing! Come back to Hungary Again!!!
Love You So Much
David von Barany from Hungary
My best 5 albums in the universe:
From you: From the Choirgirl Hotel and this
From Zsuzsa Koncz: Valahol (Somewhere) and Menetrend (Timetable) (1979,1981)
From David Bowie: Scary Monsters

I still haven't bought a CD version and keep on playing my old 'SW' cassette. I'm just a sentimental girl Smiling The album is perfect, what else could I write? Pure Tori style which has been appreciated by almost every single fan. We can find some thrilling pieces ('I Can't See New York'), energetic &catchy ones ('Wednesday'), songs bringing us to tears ('Scarlet's Walk') and, above all, simple beauty which never leaves us for a moment during the entire album. My faves are 'A Sorta Fairytale' & 'Carbon' and I believe that each one of us have found something very special to themselves on 'Scarlet's Walk'.

I was introduced to this album with the song 'A Sorta Fairytale' on the radio. Once I heard this track, I knew I had to listen to the whole album. I'll be honest, once I had, I was in utter shock. It truly amazes me how much I love each and every track--enough to buy the special edition even though I already had the original. It seems that whenever I stumble across a rough patch in my life, I can listen to songs like 'Mrs. Jesus' or 'Taxi Ride' and then suddenly everything makes sense.
My hat goes off to Tori--I have so much gratitude to express to this amazing woman.

Perhaps second only to From the Choirgirl Hotel, Scarlet's Walk is a stunning high point in Tori's remarkably consistant career. From opener "Amber Waves" through to the definitive Tori Amos song, "Gold Dust", there is not a weak moment on the record.

Often overlooked due to it's softer tone and increased maturity, Scarlet's Walk is one of those albums that improves with every listen. Subtle nuances become apparent, the ingenuity of the arrangements and the intricacy of the chord progressions become clearer. What at first could seem to be a fairly bland record reveals itself to be a work of startling depth.

There is so much at work here. "I Can't See New York" veritably leaps from the speakers as it climbs through crescendo after crescendo. "Strange" evokes the bewilderment and loss we experience at the closure of a relationship. "Gold Dust" drips of meloncholy as we are guided gently to ponder the passage of time and our place in eternity.

Few albums are as complete, as far-reaching and as dynamic as this. Scarlet's Walk is not only one of Tori's greatest achievements but also one of the greatest works by any American performer in history.
