Thank you Raz...She does look so full of joy. Jon Evans walked all over that song with his bass.

Thanks Raz...I think only Tori Amos can make an icey Yamaha sound so rich. In the second link, I really appreciate the focus and sense of direction Tori Amos had then and now. So young and so wise.

Great stuff, I just love the way she used to dress and carry herself. Bluejeans and tank tops... She was so young then. But, I bet she could still pull that look off today.
Thanks Raz.

The amazing Raz comes through again..., Wow, I really liked the cover of 'Sentimental Journey,' I think it would be great if Tori did a 'Torch Song Cover.' cd. Her phrasing is great, I know she could pull it off.

Well, when you buy the gorgeous and glamorous shoes that Tori wears, they need protection.

In which part of the WTSF dvd does she say that??? that's hilarious but i don't remember it! will have to see that dvd again and check!
Anything for Tori's shoes. LOL!

"Cut it again!"
- Tori...
This kinda doesn't fit into this thread but I didn't want to make a whole new one. Plus this is sort of a demonstration of what a legend Tori is in terms of her humor... (not that she probably ever intended this to be an idea outside of her head)
Does anyone remeber on the WTSF dvd when Tori is looking out into the rain with her PA and says she needs shoe umbrella's???????
BEHOLD
This is actually an invention. lol
Couldn't agree more:-)
I do think it is something she is particularly gifted at; putting herself into the mood or point of view of a character in the song, and making people connect with it in a new way. It isn't mechanical when she performs, she doesn't just reproduce the sounds, she gives the music a vehicle to reach out to people.

B-C thank you for the enlightening post. Sometimes, the performance outwheighs the song itself. And by that I mean that "Time" the way I heard Tori perfoming it was moving. Not because I like the music of it or anything, but because of her performance. The way she put those words into her voice was sweet and bitter at the same time. No wonder the tears...
I agree Raz, it was a genuine moment of him reaching out and her reaching back. And with the thought and care that she puts into choosing which songs will be played each night, I'm sure she chose 'Time' knowing how it would move people.
It is funny to me, a lot of people look down their noses at SLG because it was an album of covers. But there are a lot of very strong performances and interpretations of songs on that CD. Her version of 'I Don't Like Mondays' brings me to the edge of or actual tears every time. It was originally by The Boomtown Rats, and is about a school shooting, and the line "I don't like Mondays." is a quote from the girl who did the shooting. When asked why she did it, that was the only answer she had.
And speaking of SLG and www.hereinmyhead.com, one of great quotes from that era is at the bottom of 'Happiness is a Warm Gun'.
"One of the last people Mark David Chapman called before he killed John Lennon was an escort service. And we don't know if they had sex or if they just talked, but he told her to 'be silent.' So this is sung through the eyes of that call girl."

Thank you for your reply B-C. I guess I was confused because I remember that there were lots of concerts ( I recall Bette Middler in a stadium and a tv marathon with many artists). But I guess they were organised lots of days after the tragic event.
Tori seemed wounded and hurt while she was doing so and so did Letterman. And it's only natural.
I think it was one of the few times when she went up and hugged her that I saw TV's glass made screen bent a little. And by that I mean that this seemed like a genuine move and not some kind of gesture that would bring the tv viewing rate a little further up for Letterman's show..
I also found this post about that performance.
http://xponentialmusic.org/blogs/885mmmm/2007/08/29/tori-amos-on-david-l...
There were lots or reasons Raz. Some felt that in the face of all that grief, performing was meaningless and small. Some of it was that the fall-out of all the damage was making the air very bad, and I think it could have frightened them. We are also as Americans very unaccustomed to such a horrible event occurring 'in our home' so to speak. Most of our wars have occurred far from home, so we were totally unprepared for what that looked and felt like. People didn't know how to go on.
One of the reasons that I love Tori is that she seems to believe in the healing power of music and the comfort people can take from being together to hear it.

An amazing performance for an amazing song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rYGPoW_z5o
And also this one which as I read was performed only a week after 9/11. I read in wikipedia that Tori performed it ("Time"that is) on Letterman even though many artists didn't want to perform that time or were leaving New York.
Can anyone explain why that was? I mean were artists afraid for their lives or was there some other reason?
She sings it in a moving way and looks so beautiful..
