You know those so called "back vocals", "vocalisms" or whatever? The ones that give the basic lyric singing an extra touch? Well i'm a fanatic observer of those... Especially Tori's vocabulary (that is her back vocal range) adds so much to the songs..

here are my favorites:

CAUGHT A LITE SNEEZE- what is that opera-isque thing she keeps saying during the song? I think i read it refers to a goddess?

HEY JUPITER- that "whoooooo" part towards the middle and the end of the song

SMOKEY JOE-the "it's too easy etc" part

BODY AND SOUL- sweet co co co communioooooon!

DATURA- heyyy get out of my garden (and all the trembling "ga"s)

RIOT POOF- "on the bomb"

(i'm sure many others have slipped my mind)

what about yours?

I agree. I love "The Pool" for the same reason, also it has a very icy sound.

always been a fan of the vocal effects in liquid diamonds. Something about the quality in is as stunning projection of water itself. Truly stunning!

if you know me so well tell me which hand I use

Since we never get to hear these in concert I am kicking myself for not asking Tori to belt out Inanna at the Milwaukee M&G this year. I figured she had just come out of sound check, her voice would have been warmed up, and we were in this "cathedral" of buildings overlooking the river. It would have made for awesome acoustics. Oh well, I only thought of it after we spoke with her. Maybe the little redhead would have went for it!

The sexiest thing is trust.

The background vocals to CALS are so awesome. She did all that screaming in a cathedral. Smiling

"Cut it again!"
- Tori...

I love the lyrics in Cruel-Venus version. It is probably my favorite live version of a song. It is so amazing what she does with her voice. I know it isn't background vocals, but I LOVE it!

Sure that star can twinkle.

I think one of the first songs which made me become a fan of Tori was "Sleeps With Butterflies" - and these sweeeet back vocals when she sings "but I like rivers that rush in so then I dove in".
Now I absolutely love also "it's too easy" in "Smokey Joe", "cause even the wind cries your name" part in "Mary" and many others.

Inanna... interesting. I was actually just reading about her earlier today and then I watched that video and read Raz's comment.

I love the IIEEEs in IIEEE. I love the way the sounds keep lapping over each other like waves; and dearly adore Inanna in CALS. Oh and the bits in Talula, and, and, and...lol. I just love her okay. Smiling

I just love the way she says "it is clear, dear man" in drive all night. It's like i'm waiting throughout the song for her to say this phrase!

this is superfabulous! thanks guys!

it's actually Inanna:

to ajctl: i have no idea where the video is from. in the right bottom corner you can see a sign, probably a tv-company, maybe it was just an interview.

That video was gorgeous malique! Thank you so much for posting it. Did anyone else catch the "Before they were stars" video it showed on the sidebar? heehee.
(sorry, a bit off topic)

Were did that video come from? I need to know so that I can buy it. PLEASE!

Play it again Tori...

Thanks Malique...Tori's vocal range is one of the best of most contemporary singers. Sometimes, I get lost in her background vocals. Simply amazing!

no prob girls! i love that video. silver thread shooting all over the world, thru us and her and we are all conected.

hey the guy with the long hair! that is Mark Smiling

malique this is great:-) thanks for the link!

it's funny she says at some point (01:01) "ok Mark!" lol
"ok future Husband"

Wow... I didn't realise Tori was singing "this" in Caught A Lite Sneeze Laughing out loud I LOVE the "back vocals" of this song, but I never figured out what she was actually singing; it just sounded pretty Smiling
Thanks for adding that, Malique Eye-wink
Love, AH

"Excuse me, but can I be you for a while? My dog won't bite if you sit real still"

hello! the backup vocals are great! i mean you have them everywhere, but tori, she is amazing with them. raz1980! she sings this in caught a lite sneeze! enjoy

"I'll put on my silver..." Bouncing off clouds. I just think her vocal style is amazing. she does all kinds of little "IiEEEs," "uh hus" and "oohs" and that sort of thing. The baby talk in her cover of "Bonnie and Clyde '97." I love her vocal style. She has an incredible range.

I really love the end of "She's your cocaine," and the whole of "Liquid Diamonds."

I was watching a young piano student learn to stretch her fingers... I wish my parents had pushed me to play anything. I have the daunting task of teaching myself how to play so I can contribute to my other thread some day.
