We Kansans (sadly) are used to the Phelps' absurdity. We try our best to laugh and ignore them. They pretty much show up for anyone who comes to the Lied Center. They were protesting Joanne Shenandoah there a couple of years ago and she had no idea who they were. I've been an LGBT activist in Kansas for a few years and I've had more than one run-in with them. I loved hearing Tori's take on peacefully driving them away. When I was at Wichita State, I used to love sending them my "lesbian avengers we recruit" fliers. They would drive down to Wichita thinking they were going to have this big protest on our campus and no one would pay any attention to them. I don't want to sound like I don't think they are dangerous--they have hurt a lot of people, but it's great that we can laugh about them.

that is ridiculious. i just went to an elton john concert at the new sprint center in KC last month, & there were a lot of protesters out front at that as well. I plan on ignoring them. thanks for the heads up!

These are the same classy people who picket outside the funerals of soldiers. They are being sued for millions of dollars for doing this, so hopefully that will put a stop to their nonsense.

Yea, they just picketed a HS production of The Laramie Project up here in Massachusetts, and they're well known for this type of behavior. Just wanted to alert people who might be going tonight - best course of action is to entirely ignore 'em.

Oh wow, I cannot believe it. Sounds like a movie to me. I hope things don't ever get that extreme here in Australia.
