Ok this is a loooong one!! It's been 39 days but it feels like yesterday! I was really early on site, 4+ hours before the gates opened-hoping for a meet and greet that never happened But we got to say hi to Matt and see Mark Tori did not soundcheckherself, only the crew. After the soundcheck was over and everybody left, a guy on a pink shirt from Tori's crew came out going "F**K! f**k! I need to talk to someone in charge here!" Apparently he was left behind while everyone returned to the hotel We told him that everyone left and he was going "It's freeking HOT in there!" - reffering to the stage ("Welcome to Sunny Greece" my friend!)
Anyway he got off later to the hotel with the minibus..
The importand thing at the soundcheck was that we now knew *where* and *how* the piano was situated on stage-so we knew which side of the stage to pick
The gates opened, and we rushed to the stage and we were front and almost front (I was in 1-2 row) as close to Tori as possible
When the Piano came out people started cheering,it was very nice! A guy was cleaning it,and a spot on the piano seemed
to have fingerprints on it-and he always missed it - untill the whole audience pointed it out (quite a moment!) - but now I think it was a reflection or something cause it never came out
"Pip" came out with an intro to Cruel, went to the stool, kneeled on it and showed us her bootie as "hello". She wore a yellow dress and black leather pants - her hair was great! She was pissed off-as you would expect from Pip! She played Cruel standing up and facing the audience with fire and passion.
For Body And Soul she danced a bit on the intro and she took her position on the piano -and she was a bit more fiery this time.
She continued singing Fat Slut- a cappella and on her knees! It felt she was begging someone with this song,it was powerful.
And while on her knees, the band stated playing-Bliss was on her way. Pip put her head down on the floor, and then
still on her knees, she started playing the piano for Bliss. Strangely enough this continued the theatrical mood,as it was something that came right after the storm. It felt personal, yet powerful (it reminded me of the TVAB tour) and you knew you were on the eye of the storm- it was not over yet.It was Pip soft and personal side-that she keeps in the back of her head..
Then the band started playing the Waitress. Pip was moving to the rhythm with crossed hands and facing down. She started singing and she was creepy-she REALLY wanted to kill this waitress-but thank God she believed in peace-b**ch!
When the waitress was over, Pip left the stage giving us the finger(!@!!??) That got me concerned!
After all she sung a 7 minute version of the Waitress!!
Overall Pip was a bit arrogant, really pissed off,and she scared me cause I thought: well, she played the waiterss!@!@@! She's REALLY pissed of at something! And I thought Tori was pissed off at something too-but when Tori came out as "Tori" it was a COMPLETELY different person!
She an incredible sweetie!
Professional Widow jam followed and Tori came out shining with her blue shinny dress and a wig that was more to the hair colour she had on the early years-less red, more orange-carrot coloured that anyone who did not know wouldn't notice! The wind was blowing her hair and it was really natural looking!
She waved "Tori style" to the crowd smiling all the time, and I was "Yes, this is the Tori I was expecting! Phew! She's OK! Nothing pissed her off!"
She started clapping, the crowd followed and she started Big Wheel with a bang! She was full of energy and "good karma" the whole time. She smiled and danced sitting on the stool and playing. On the MILF bit she gave a sign for us to sing "Don't you
forget" and she got the crowd going.
Before Cornflake she said it's brilliant to be here and that she had promised a long time ago to come to Greece.
She did the band intro, and started playing Cornflake Girl, one of her most popular songs in Greece. The song's piano bridge still is my all time favourite
We were singing, Tori played the piano intro and bridge standing up with her hair flowing from the wind and it was magical!
She broke the barrier of cuteness in this one!
Afterwards the band started Bouncing off Clouds and Tori was putting her hands over the front of her body from the head all the way down,on a straight line, and up again, reminding me the BFP Electronic Press Kit interview,of the thread (song inspiration) that comes from space, though this little readhead (her head) and coming out to the ground again on a straight line.
On the first few bars of the song we went wild,I thing everybody really enjoyed Bouncing Off Clouds! It had the rhythm and she was so cute!
Then God followed, with Tori throwing her hair up front and showing us her back with one foot on the stool. She was brilliant and I really enjoyed it.
Secret spell followed in a good mood, but my favourite was yet to come:
CODE RED!!!!
I really like this one. It's dark. It's Liquid. It comes from a place out there that I really feel I know it well.
She was amazing. Passion, voice-it was breathtaking.
I lighted up a cigarette, Tori looked at me gave me a smile (!!)-I was the only one up front smoking That made my day/year/decade I don't know
And as a closer, Tori played Precious Things witch was a blast, I knew it was the last song and I really wanted more!
Everybody that loves Tori through her music HAS TO see her live! It's a different thing,a complete new feeling and something that can never be captured on CD or DVD, only a portion.
I almost forgot,John Evans was incredible! The band played perfectly but I feel John "stole" the stage! He was full of energy and really enjoying it! He got us clapping at some point
So whenever Tori comes in Greece again I will move mountains to go see her again!
That performance made up for every inch of my sun-burned skin that day lol! (yes I got a sunburn )
THANK YOU TORI!
