I have this playlist in my wmp. And the name of it is ofcourse tori amos. So everyday one funny thing happens: i keep adding more songs to it. More favorites. Old ones but new ones to me. Spark, Past the mission, Sweet the sting, Bliss, Raspberry Swirl and the list goes on and on!
It's just rare that a singer can be called an artist. It's not just about the singing. It's not just about the piano playing. It's not just about the image.
It's not only about the true meaning of songs. It's also the fact that she can articulate pain and love for example, without using those words even!
It's also about the fact that there is indeed an obvious and very well thought of concept in every single artistic step she takes.
Making in to the top 10 is not a concept. it's a goal. But in most of today's singers THIS ends up taking over the whole work.
But that is not what happens with Amos.
She manages to make you want to search the song. Yes SEARCH for meanings, search for enorchestration patterns. Search for details that turn music into a pure enjoyment, besides being an emotional catharsis.
respect and respect again T.A.

always believed the same...
Hi there...I have always believed the same... but seeing how you describe it in words made a connection with me... I totally know what you mean about her ability to articulate pain and love and many other emotions too, without even using those actual words... and also how you find yourself being drawn into the songs and inspired to search the details for meanings perspectives and patterns...she is truly a unique and special songwriter and person.
Take care, wdw39
