I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...
i was in college when tori appeared on the scene, and i was aware of her thru various friends, and seeing/reading about her, but i had never heard her songs, and therefore never bought an album.
in 1999 i saw tori on THE TONIGHT SHOW, plugging TO VENUS AND BACK. she sang 1,000 OCEANS. i was transfixed--i felt like i was sliding down into the depths of the sea and flying at the same time. i went out and bought VENUS, and that was all it took--i began buying/collecting tori's other albums.
in 2002, i was living in atlanta and saw tori in concert for the 1st time--at the atlanta civic center. it was the SCARLET'S WALK tour. i'd bought the special edition cd, and loved it.
i went with my cousin, who also loves tori (thanks to my tutelage). from the moment she walked onstage, we were spellbound. i felt like i was at a baptist revival--not only were the fans devout worshippers, but the music was so primal as to be almost holy. it moved thru my body and soul, transporting and transforming. tori was a red-haired messiah--perhaps mrs. jesus? more like mary magdelene...
i saw her again the following year in 2003 at atlanta's chastain amphitheatre on the LOTTAPIANOS tour, and was knocked off my feet once again (as if tori laid hands upon me).
AMERICAN DOLL POSSE is perhaps her finest album so far in this decade, and i look forward to the tour. i identify most with santa and clyde, but all the dolls are inside me.
tori's music is spiritual and primal, secular and sexual, whimsical and deadly.
they don't call her a goddess for nothing...
