I'm a fan (and you should be too) because... When the listener is ready, Tori will appear. That is how it happened for me. I was at a music store in St. Louis, MO checking out CDs at one of those preview listening stations. Someone must have moved some of the CDs around into the wrong number slots because when I pressed a number to select a music artist (just whom it was? I don't even remember now) instead I started to hear Tori Amos. The song was "Leather" from Little Earthquakes. Instantly I was hooked. The sound of Tori's voice, the feel of the song, this fantastic sonic world I was pulled into. This is my style, this is for me, this is it! Right here. I listened to the song again. I wasn't old enough yet to truly understand what those lyrics meant dressed up in a fun campy almost cabaret style. I thought it was "cute" But hey when you are in Jr. high & high school everything is "cute" My understanding or at least my more mature interpretation of Tori's lyrics would come later.
After buying the CD and listening to the entire album to my surprise I realized I had heard one of Tori's songs before. It was "Crucify". I laughed to myself because I remembered an old episode of Beavis & Butt-Head in which they were making fun of the song.
Little did I know that beautiful red head was going continue to have such an impact on my life. Album after album. Each album is like a little time machine taking me back to that time in my life when that CD came out and was on heavy rotation in the CD player. You may laugh but the sole reason why I got my first iPod was to be able to have my entire Tori Amos music collection with me everywhere I go. Every album shows some of the experiences, heart, soul and talent that is Tori Amos. I am thankful she shares it all.
