Well I was aware of Tori way before this but the thing that turned me into a fan was a really odd event. I was watching Great Expectations in 2000 on television. Not the greatest movie ever - though I love Cuaron's latest movies - but I was sorta enjoying it. That is until this "little" song called Siren galloped through my living room. I was almost paralyzed. "Who is this creature?". I found out I already knew her and that it was Tori Amos. The rest is HisTORI (funny) and was the beginning of the beginning. I found out that that girl was just one of many - girls & boys as I have to disagree with Tori about the sex of some of these entities - that would change my life completely. I've been a totally devoted Ears with Feet since then and even though some of my earlier deities - like Björk since age 11 - are still strong, Tori is the Hera of my pantheon. I'm from Portugal and even though she hasn't toured here - yet - I have seen her twice (or four times) in London in 2005 and 2007. The concerts were true transcendental experiences and nothing I've ever experienced outside (or inside) a music hall. Magical is too short a word. Brilliant is overused. Tori's uniqueness also lies in her ability to baffle us beyond comprehension and takes us in a journey with her, where you fully participate alongside her, and the songs, some of the best melodic contemporary compositions, pave our way in the narrative of our lives.
Track-by-track Review
here's the track-by-track review I made when the album first came out
my love for my favorites has grown and the ones I didn't like a lot I enjoy now. I actually like Secret Spell live *shock*
1. Yo George
A beautiful sorrowful piano intro that is very Tori. I for once don’t mind the lyrics at all. Direct but they contrast beautifully with the melody
2. Big Wheel
